My mom just dropped in for a visit. With her she brought gifts! My mom has a knack for giving. She is thoughtful, practical, fun, and generous to a fault. Her gifts are always well thought out, if not over the top and more that you ever really need... but then, isn't that the definition of a *gift*?Daughters don't always see the gift in their moms, do they? At least, I didn't when I was growing up in her house, and I'm pretty sure my own daughter would use different words to describe me. However, after we lost my husband's mother a couple years ago, the very harsh reality that I will not always have my mom around has hit hard. And, long before loosing Nancy I realized what a spectacular gift my own mom is to me, but now her dropping by means more.
Since moving back to our old stomping ground (that being the great Pacific North West), I look forward to and cherish every visit my mom drops in for. Just having her sitting beside me or across from me in my living room, enjoying a cup of coffee is priceless. Each encounter with her that much more meaningful. Even if nothing deep or moving is said, or nothing spectacular happens, her presence alone is a gift. One that I don't take for granted.
Mother and daughters through thick and thin, for better and worse, till death do we part... not an oath by choice, but a reality through birth. Mom, you are such a gift in my life and I love you!

Oh Lindsey, you are so right. Mom is such a treasure! You made me wanna cry... It's so sappy, but true! She has a gift of calming me and making me feel warm and loved every time I see her, even if just for a moment. I hope our daughters feel the same way, at least someday. I know they will! Love you sis!
